Cats and Dogs
wilsont3ch sent a complaint about the new captcha to the support team of RapidShare and got the following reply:
“The sitting animal is the cat.
The standing animal is the dog.”
The full reply follows.
“we are sorry that you got a error message when entering a Captchas.
We use Captchas to prevent automatically downloads.
Automatic downloads from Free-User decrease the download speed from our
servers significantly.
Therefore we change our captchas from time to time for better safety and to
provide the best possible service for our Premium and Free Users.
Our intention is to prevent automatic screen reading software and this can
cause sometimes difficulties reading.
We apologize for the inconvenience.Kindly note that even though there now are more than 4 letters and numbers in
one captcha you still only have to type 4 letters and numbers in the box.
Every captcha letter/number is with animal picture and you only have to use
the 4 letters/numbers with the cats.The sitting animal is the cat.
The standing animal is the dog.

Oh that’s ridiculous. I haven’t been able to download a single file yet. And how does it allow automatic downloads if not used? The old captchas was good enough.. if it slows things down that much, then why bother providing for free users..

I know it’s a bot ridiculous to make cats and dogs and such but I know what they are talking about.
There are plenty of programs that recognize the captcha, download the file, restart the modem(You know why I guess), recognize the captcha for the next file, download it etc……….
This way bandwidth will be overused, or let’s say the premium accounts won’t sell well. You can’t blame them for that, can you?
But again these CATS and DOGS are really annoying
they could make it like a picture having a text “type the letters in red” or “write the word (release) without typing the (e) letter” etc…. such thing would be much easier for people to comprehend and yet would be nearly as impossible as cats and dogs for automated captcha recognizing programs
